Mr Paul Rooney is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon working at Royal Liverpool University Hospital. Mr Rooney has 36 years in practice and a vast expertise in Rectal cancer treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Ileoanal Pouch Surgery. He leads on surgical treatment for intestinal failure and advanced pelvic cancer and reoperative surgery.
He graduated from The University of Sheffield 1984 and obtained a higher degree (DM) 1993 from Nottingham in the field of cancer prevention. He completed fellowships at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto 1994 working under Zane Cohen and Robin McLeod and was lecturer in surgery at Nottingham University 1994-96 until appointed Consultant Surgeon in Liverpool 1996. He has lead an active research team and has interests in molecular cancer biology and IBD. Mr Rooney served as Colorectal Lead Chair of Cheshire & Merseyside Strategic Clinical Networks in Cheshire. He maintains a professional society membership with The Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland and is Chair of the Clinical Governance Board of that organisation and served on council from 2006- 2019. Mr Rooney has worked on the CORESS board since 2012.
